How it's worked out

Three readings, against your own normal.

Your Apple Watch already saves these to Apple Health while you sleep. Fullday reads them on your iPhone, and on the watch itself, with nothing to sign in to.

Overnight HRV

Heart rate variability: the small changes in time between heartbeats. The readings from 8 pm to 10 am are averaged into one number for the morning, and it counts for the most. Plews 2013 · HRV trends.

What the number means

One call for the day.

The score sits in one of three zones, and the Recovery screen shows which reading moved it, by how much, against your normal.

A high morning means your body looks ready for load; a low one means a lighter day fits better. It's a guide for training, never a diagnosis. The scores are free; the coaching on them, including the strain to aim for today, is Fullday Pro.

Questions about recovery on Apple Watch.

Do I have to wear my Apple Watch to bed?

For a full reading, yes. Overnight HRV counts for the most, and the watch can only take it while you wear it to bed. On a night without it, the score has less to go on, and the Recovery screen lists the readings it used. Your iPhone alone still logs sleep with Going to Bed and I'm Awake.

How long until the score knows my normal?

If Apple Health already holds nights from your watch, Fullday reads that history when you connect it, so your first score comes from your own nights. Starting fresh, the app says it's still learning your normal, and scores firm up after a week of overnight heart data.

Which Apple Watch and iPhone do I need?

An iPhone with iOS 17 or later. The Fullday watch app needs watchOS 11 or later: Apple Watch Series 6 and later, SE 2nd generation, and every Ultra.

Is the recovery score free?

Yes. Recovery, Strain and Sleep scores with Apple Health are free, with no time limit and no account. Fullday Pro adds the coaching on them: $59.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, $9.99 a month, or $179.99 once.

Is a recovery score medical advice?

No. Fullday is not a medical device and doesn't diagnose anything. Its scores and tips are for general wellness, and every tip names the study or guideline behind it. Talk to a doctor about any health concern.

No extra band or ring needed: a recovery score with the watch you have. Already wear another device? See what reaches Fullday through Apple Health.
